Worthing runs roughly east to west along the seafront, with the town centre and pier at its heart. Moving inland and along the coast, the town takes in several older districts that were once separate villages:
- Broadwater — just north of the town centre, the original village Worthing grew from.
- Durrington — further west and inland, added to Worthing in 1929.
- Goring-by-Sea — the westernmost coastal district, also added to Worthing in 1929.
- Salvington and High Salvington — inland to the north, on higher ground.
- Town centre and seafront — the pier, Montague Street, the Guildbourne Centre and Steyne Gardens.
- West Tarring — to the west, with its own historic church and old village core.
- West Worthing — the coastal strip between the town centre and Goring.
